Adobe have announced the launch of a new tool called Adobe Edge, the HTML5 Web Motion and Interaction Design Tool.

The free download of the BETA version of the software will allow web designers to create animation in HTML5 and CSS3 as opposed to Flash.

Ever since Steve Jobs banned Flash from iOS there has been much debate over it’s future. Adobe always stuck by it’s product, but this is a turning point seeing the company covering all bases.

When it comes down to it though, HTML5 is a web standard and Flash is just a 3rd party platform. This statement alone guarantees that HTML5 will dominate Flash and wil be the the default for web based animation and any kind of intereactive content in the future.

Adobe said, “Adobe Systems Incorporated today announced the first public preview release of Adobe Edge, a new HTML5 web motion and interaction design tool that allows web designers to bring animation, similar to that created in Flash Professional, to websites using standards likes HTML, JavaScript and CSS.”

Adobe Edge is being offered as a free preview download from Adobe’s Web site. Mr. Anders of Adobe said it was expected to be introduced to the public in 2012.

Grab it here:

Yesterday it was revealed that the FULL as yet unreleased iPad Facebook app is actually hidden inside the iPhone app that is already available for free download from the appstore. Jailbreakers quickly found a way to access this and published details online on how to do it. However, Facebook quickly moved to block this access by last night.

This morning it seems that, as always, the jailbreakers have found another way in by a dowloadable file from within Cydia. If you want to unlock the Facebook app in full and use it unrestricted just follow the instructions below. There is even a video to help you if you are having trouble

- You will need to jailbreak your iPad. Do this by visiting jailbreakme.
- Install the iPhone Facebook app on your iPad
- Refresh your packages in Cydia
- Search for ‘Faceforward’ in Cydia and install the package
- Reboot your ipad
- Open the Facebook app and enjoy!

Here is the video to talk you through the process:

Some things are simply amazing.

Plenty of robots can fly, but none can fly like a real bird. That is, until Markus Fischer and his team of engineers at the German technology company, Festo, developed SmartBird, an avian robot that can take off and fly through the air by simply flapping its wings.

SmartBird was inspired by the herring gull, Larus argentatus. It is a bit larger than this gull species, with a two-metre wingspan and a carbon-fiber “skeleton” that weighs 450 grams. Like live birds, SmartBird’s “torso” can flex, providing directional control and is radio-controlled and monitored from afar.

As you would expect, the wings move up and down, generating lift, but the wings also twist and flex in flight like those of a real bird. This torsion keeps the wing’s leading edge pointed upwards during the upward stroke, so that the wing adopts a positive angle of attack. This smooth sequence of wing movements generates thrust.

It will be interesting to see what this could lead to in manned flight and aeroplane designs. Imaging flying to your holiday destination on a giant mechanical bird!

JJ Abrams, producer of LOST, Cloverfield and Star Trek has announced a new TV series at Comic Con called ‘Alcatraz’.

Fox has released pictures and a plot synopsis along with a trailer (embedded below). Abrams produces the show which is written by Elizabeth Sarnoff who also worked on LOST and Deadwood. The show is obviously centred on San Francisco’s infamous prison and the cast includes Sam Neil (Jurassic Park) and Jorge Garcia who played the character Hugo Reyes in LOST.

SYNOPSIS

When San Francisco Police Department DET. REBECCA MADSEN (Sarah Jones, “Sons of Anarchy”) is assigned to a grisly homicide case, a fingerprint leads her to a shocking suspect: JACK SYLVANE (guest star Jeffrey Pierce, “The Nine”), a former Alcatraz inmate who died decades ago. Given her family history – both her grandfather and surrogate uncle, RAY ARCHER (Robert Forster, “Jackie Brown”), were guards at the prison – Madsen’s interest is immediately piqued, and once the enigmatic, knows-everything-but-tells-nothing government agent EMERSON HAUSER (Sam Neill, “Jurassic Park”) tries to impede her investigation, she’s doggedly committed. Madsen turns to Alcatraz expert and comic book enthusiast, DR. DIEGO “DOC” SOTO (Jorge Garcia, “Lost”), to piece together the inexplicable sequence of events. The twosome discovers that Sylvane is not only alive, but he’s loose on the streets of San Francisco, leaving bodies in his wake. And strangely, he hasn’t aged a day since he was in Alcatraz, when the prison was ruled by the iron-fisted WARDEN EDWIN JAMES (Jonny Coyne, “Undercovers”) and the merciless ASSOCIATE WARDEN E.B. TILLER (Jason Butler Harner, “The Changeling”).

Madsen and Soto reluctantly team with Agent Hauser and his technician, LUCY BANERJEE (Parminder Nagra, “ER”), to stop Sylvane’s vengeful killing spree. By delving into Alcatraz history, government cover-ups and Rebecca’s own heritage, the team will ultimately discover that Sylvane is only a small part of a much larger, more sinister present-day threat. For while he may be the first, it quickly becomes clear that Sylvane won’t be the last prisoner to reappear from Alcatraz.

Through the course of the investigation, Madsen and Soto will learn that Agent Hauser has known about the prison’s secret history and has been awaiting the prisoners’ return. Soto will witness his life’s work – the history of Alcatraz – come alive. Madsen will be forced to keep her supportive San Francisco cop fiancé, JIMMY DICKENS (Santiago Cabrera, “Heroes”), at arm’s length from the highly classified assignment as she sees everything she thought she knew about her family’s past shattered, all while fighting to keep the country safe from history’s most dangerous criminals.

ALCATRAZ is produced by Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Bad Robot Productions and Warner Bros. Television. The series is executive-produced by J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk (FRINGE) and Elizabeth Sarnoff. Steven Lilien (“Kyle XY”) & Bryan Wynbrandt (“Kyle XY”) and Sarnoff wrote the pilot, and Danny Cannon (“CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” “CSI: Miami”) directed and executive-produced the pilot.

The new kid on the social media block, Google+ allows you to add the +1 button to your website, Google’s version of the ‘Like’ button from Facebook. This tutorial will show you how to add the +1 button in a couple of easy steps.

If you are a Blogger, the +1 button will be extremely important as the Google+ community grows. Since the Panda update Social Media is now being taken into account in the Search Engine Results and if you get enough +1′s (and Facebook Likes and Retweets) you should see better organic listings for your page.

How to implement the Google +1 button on your page in 2 steps:

First we need to add the following code, just before your </body> tag.

<!-- Place this tag in your head or just before your close body tag -->
<script type="text/javascript" src="https://apis.google.com/js/plusone.js"></script>

Next, simply paste the following code where you want the button to appear:

<!-- Place this tag where you want the +1 button to render -->
<g:plusone></g:plusone>

That’s it ! Painless.

You can use this code in your WordPress post template pages if you want to carry it across all posts you make.

If you want to customise your button visit the Google Webmaster page here:

http://www.google.com/webmasters/+1/button/index.html
